The Democratic primary is getting downright scary. Now I have know for a very long time that politicians willl say anything to get elected, but this race of idiots is beyond the normal boundaries. Obama and Clinton both think that a nationalized healthcare plan is the best course of action. How can any rational individual think that this is not going to slow down the wheels of capitalism. Their plans will keep the best and brighest OUT of the medical profession.
Why would someone spend the educational time required to become a physician if they are not able to earn an above average income? They won't. Many physicians are now frustrated with the incredible liability costs they incur---and these costs are growing exponentially each year. Government controlled reimbursement and regulation will weigh down the healthcare system that we now enjoy. The productive members of society will wait in line for medical care behind the freeloaders. The private insurance industry has long know that copayments, deductibles and any other form of cost sharing requires consumers to make responsible decisions before purchasing a service. Freeloaders will consume more healthcare because they have no stake in the issue. They will not pay their fair share and physicians and hospitals will be required to treat them or face losing participation in the national system----Don't believe me? Check it out. That is how Medicaid is set up right now in most every state.
We have already seen the deadbeats punish hospital by abusing the EMTALA Law. EMTALA requires that hospitals provide a medical screening to any individual before inquiring about their ability to pay. It further requires that if the patient is in an emergent situation that they be treated with out regard to their ability to pay until their condition is stabilized. Great Law Huh? Yes, unless individuals abuse the system and they do every day. Deadbeats know that if they present to emergency rooms that physicians are scared of the liability of determining that they are non emergent without rendering any treatment. So they head to the ER with a sore throat that could be handled in the Dr's office the next day----throw in the additional complaint of abdominal pain and they head home after a free injection.
